Dry and Sensitive Skin: Two Main Ingredients to Avoid

Dry and Sensitive Skin: Two Ingredients to Avoid in Moisturizers

Having dry skin can be uncomfortable and even painful at times. If you’re looking for a moisturizer to help keep your skin hydrated, it’s crucial to find one with quality ingredients. A quality moisturizer will do precisely what its name implies: it will add abundant hydration to your skin to help ward off dryness and plump the skin to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, there are two ingredients you should avoid when choosing a moisturizer, as they can cause more harm than good. Knowing which elements to avoid in a moisturizer is key to finding one that works best for your needs.

 1.Synthetic Fragrance

While NATURAL fragrances can be an excellent addition to many moisturizing products for their aromatherapy and anti-aging benefits, synthetic fragrances can be irritating and damaging to the skin. Synthetic fragrances can cause rashes, burning sensations, and itching. Be careful with the word natural; some synthetic fragrances add natural ingredients to the synthetic mixture to use the word. Real natural fragrances will tell you exactly what plant or source it is derived from, whereas synthetic will have only the word natural or 'parfum' or 'fragrance' at the end of their ingredients list. It's essential to read product labels carefully to avoid potential damage from synthetic fragrances, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin.

2. Alcohol

Many brands add moisture-robbing alcohol to make their moisturizers appear light, penetrate easily, or have a longer shelf life. However, for those with sensitive and dry skin prone to eczema or rosacea, even a trace amount of alcohol can be damaging. Some researchers have raised concerns that because alcohol enhances the penetration of other ingredients, the skin may be more likely to absorb potentially toxic or harmful contaminants. When looking for a good moisturizer, look for options containing hyaluronic acid and ceramides that bind cells together and strengthen the skin's barrier. This will protect your skin from harsh elements while maintaining moisture levels simultaneously.
