Second Graders Wrote Adorable Letters On Behalf Of Shelter Animals To Get Them Adopted, And It Worked! 🐶
Kensey Jones has always had two passions: teaching children and helping animals. When she combined them, her 2nd graders learned more about the animal kingdom than they ever could have imagined.
Kensey Jones, a Richmond, Virginia, second-grade teacher and a volunteer at Richmond Animal Care and Control, was trying to develop a writing assignment to teach her students the power their words could have when she got an incredible thought! What if they write essays persuading shelter visitors to adopt dogs?
The next day, Kensey contacted the Richmond Animal Care and Control director, Christie Peters, who loved the idea. Kensey’s students at St. Michael’s Episcopal School gushed excitedly and couldn’t wait to start.
Kids naturally love animals, and that enthusiasm showed in their essays and artworks so much they quickly saw about eight dogs get adopted the first weekend! They now have 21 out of 24 animals in their forever homes.
💖Being a writer, I know the power words hold, and this story made my heart smile.💖 (Image credits: racc_shelter)
