As Within So Without

Pores are Im-pore-tant

Can You Get Rid of Pores?

Sad Face with little acne spots

I watched as a friend stared in the mirror and confronted her pores, the way a girlfriend would engage a terrible boyfriend.

“AHHH!!. Why do you do this to me? Why are you soooo BIG and GROSS? Why do you make my skin look rough, ten years older, unclean, give me acne, whiteheads, and blackheads? I can’t stand you!!! Please leave my face!!”

Girls will have a panic attack about a pimple but will side swipe a side walk like nothing happened quote

WOW! Thank goodness pores don't have feelings; otherwise, they would be hurt, and my friend would not like what they would have to say back to her. It probably would go something like this:

"Well, pore-Zilla, maybe if you would do a little bit more research, you would realize you inherited those big pores from your parent's big pores, and you're just a big pore family." OHHHH SNAP!

Oh Burn!

Pores don't go around breaking people out because they don't like you. Breakouts happen because of accumulated impurities like dirt and oil.

Without pores, you would be bald, your complexion would be dull, dehydrated and you would die of heat exhaustion. If you want your pores to disappear, you're going to disappear too. ðŸ‘€

Pores are no more than tiny openings upon the skin of the hair follicle, which extend downward through several layers of the skin. Wherever there is hair, there are pores. That's why breakouts can happen all over the body. The tiny openings (pores) allow sweat, sebum, and dead skin cells to exit the skin's surface. The dead skin cells and sebum coat and protect skin from bacteria and viruses and condition the skin. Sweat is there to regulate body heat. As skin gets hotter, pores dilate, and sweat exits to the surface. The evaporation of the sweat cools the skin.

Demonstration of Skin

In a perfect world, dead skin cells, sweat, and sebum would exit smoothly onto the skin, but that is not always the case. Sometimes, pores get clogged with debris, such as makeup, dirt, dried-up dead skin cells that have hardened on the skin's surface. The material plugs the pores to stop sebum, sweat, and dead skin cells from exiting the surface, and bacteria accumulate underneath the skin. The accumulation alerts the immune system that foreign objects are in the body, causing infections. The immune system releases white blood cells to obstruct and causes the skin to inflame. This inflammation shows up as heat, swelling, redness, and pain. (acne, whiteheads, and blackheads) If the pores stay clogged, acne can get worse. Especially if a person has oily skin. The overproduction of oil attracts more dirt and bacteria under the skin, and the build-up can cause deeper infections, and an abscess will develop.

If acne does occur, it's imperative blackheads, whiteheads, and acne are left alone and not squeezed. Squeezing may lead to a bit of scarring, which will permanently widen pores.

A zit popping

No matter what the cosmetic companies tell you, genetics determine the size of your pores. Pores don't permanently get bigger and smaller. Open and close Although, certain conditions can make it seem that way.

Oily skin has wider oil ducts creating the illusion of bigger pores on the surface. Products that contain acetone and alcohol will shrink pores temporarily. Acetone and alcohol irritate the skin surface, which causes swelling around the pore thus, creating a smaller pore. However, this is short-lived, and the pore will go back to its natural size. Sunburns do the same thing. Sunburned skin becomes inflamed and swells. But once the inflammation subsides, the pores go back to their natural size.

Its crucial pores are kept their average size and unclogged to keep skin acne-free, fresh, and vibrant. Here are a few tips:

It's mandatory that makeup and other products are oil-free, non-comedogenic, and Dermatologist-tested. Look for ingredients that won't clog pores. Here is a list of ingredients to avoid.

And wash all products off before going to bed. Always wear sunblock. The sun thickens cells around the pores, creating the illusion of more prominent pores. If the skin is oily, wash your face at least twice a day. Use medications that contain salicylic acid to dry up the overproduction of oil. For other skin types, products with vitamin A are an excellent way of keeping the skin free of dead skin cells. And last and most importantly, use a daily exfoliant. It will remove the dirt, oil, and other debris accumulated throughout the day that clog and distend the pores. With regular care and maintenance, your skin can be PORE-FECT.
