Johnny Cash and June Carter When The Heart Won't Let The Brain Win- An Unconditional Love Story

❤️Johnny Cash and June Carter ❤️

On what would be Johnny Cash’s 88th birthday, what better way to celebrate the man, the artist, and the legend than writing about what he loved most—his marriage to June Carter.

Johnny Cash and June Carter

Johnny Cash and June Carter met backstage after an Elvis Presley concert in 1956.  June was a backup singer for Elvis, and Elvis was a huge fan of Johnny’s music. Before concerts, Elvis would play Johnny Cash songs over and over on a jukebox for June.   Elvis was convinced the two would hit it off, and boy was he right.  The two immediately had an attraction to each other, but sadly, June and Johnny both were in marriages.   They started a friendship over the years but couldn’t deny the chemistry and the love they had for each other.

Johnny and June eventually had to admit the attraction. June is quoted as saying, "I think I'm falling in love with Johnny Cash, and this is the most painful thing I've ever gone through in my life."

Johnny is quoted as saying, "He was unashamed in the fact that he'd been absolutely infatuated with June from the beginning, and knew that although he was married, he and June Carter were meant to be together."

Johnny tried to make June marry him multiple times during a 13-year relationship, and each time she denied him. Finally, in 1968, Johnny and June were engaged and soon after married. They had their first child, a son, together in 1970.

June later would describe their marriage as being “in a ring of fire,” those words inspired the writing of “Ring of Fire,” and as fate would have it, the song became one of Johnny’s number one hits.

Throughout their marriage, Johnny struggled with addictions that almost killed him, and he had several affairs.

It's assumed June stayed faithful and heartbroken. There was such a painful and unconditional love for Johnny that she stuck with him through it all.  She saw a bright light in Johnny.

He reached many lows in his life but never abandoned his faith in GOD, and despite the rock and roll lifestyle, addictions, and life on the road, he was able to completely clean up. The two lived out the rest of their lives together for 35 years. He credited GOD's unconditional grace and June's unconditional love.

June passed in 2003 from surgery complications. Johnny and their children were at her side.

At his last performance, he performed "Ring of Fire" and explained that his wife's spirit was there.

"The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight with the love she had for me and the love I have for her. We connect somewhere between here and heaven. She came down for a short visit, I guess, from heaven to visit with me tonight to give me courage and inspiration like she always has."

Johnny would pass only a few months later.
